Like the author of the article, I hate the word 'panties'. I always thought it was an americanism. Perhaps not.

we do too, but when the kids were still at home they used to call them "grundies" and that went on til they left home.

When I visit my daughter and I do the wash sometimes, we still call them grundies.

Panties always seems 'little girly' to me

I thought it was just a board talk expression.  I've seen plenty of posters say that they have their big girl panties on.

My Mother called them Panties, I just call them Knickers or under wear.
