Co payment, or maybe an excess, the same as all insurers charge for every other type of insurance.
I can live with it, just as I live ok with the amount of Medicare levy (insurance premium) I pay from my wages, which exceeds my annual medical bills by around 1000%

Perhaps we should have a system here as they used to have in China (don't know if it still exsists?)
People used to pay the Doctor as long as they were healty. Once a person became ill, the payments stopped until the Doctor made the patient well again. Doctors were very much interested in keeping their patience healthy.

All that will happen is hospital costs will blow out as people stop going to the doctor until things become serious and then require acute care.

I think that the proposal to introduce a $6 co-payment to visit a GP is actually designed to place such a load on the public hospitals that the govt can argue that they are inefficient and need to be privatised.

What is a good name for the proposed GP charges?
User pays.

User already pays:
Compulsory - Medicare levy 1.5 % - 2.5 +%.
Optional - Private health fund - $2000+ per year.

The user pays anyway monman with the medicare levy and then again a medicare levy surcharge if you have a high wage and no private insurance.
I would call it the clear up the waiting room from those horrible pesky social security families.
Before anyone says anything horrible, I also think we should have free health clinics and hospitals shouldn't be congested with people that can't afford the doctors visit. It's just not fair that this is their only option.

Medicare levy paying taxpayers pay and don't use either.. as Carl pointed out. Hastn't the Govt already got enough out of them, if they did need to go to a Dr once a year?
