What is the best way to freeze and unfreeze chocolate bars with short expiry left?

If you have some chocolate bars you got cheap and they expire today and you want to save them, do you just put them in the freezer?

I just went and checked my stash. All had long "best before" dates (like well into 2015). The long "best before" dates indicate the product is pretty long-lasting, and the "best before" (as opposed to a "use by") date means that it is just a guide.

Purp ... is that just for the "fake" chocolate Easter eggs, or the real ones as well?

I have put block chocolate in the freezer in the summer time. It thawed out ok, can just break a bit off and put the rest back.

 Haven't done that for awhile.

Depends how many choc bars the OP bought as to the answer being eat them up soon.

After Easter one year I bought on special a few bags of the little Cad. eggs.. the expiry date was months ahead so not expired. They tasted awful, stalie like, the silver paper was hard to pull off. Kmart wouldn't refund( had 2 more bags unopened) as it was a food item. 

Something odd going on there, perhaps what you suggested above.

Thanks, AM3 ... my son likes chocolate from the fridge, I like it at room temperature ... we haven't experimented with frozen chocolate.

The best way to freeze anything is ti put it in the freezer to defrost something frozen is to just take it out of the freezer 🙂

I have not put chocolate in the freezer, but if I did, I think I would put it (as bought, not unwrapped 🙂 ) into a ziplock bag or airtight container. That way the wrappers/cardboard won't get frosty and a bit soggy on defrost.

If you have room just put it in the fridge. Will keep fine.
