What is the motivation...........

.........that compels people to attend major league football games at a stadium in their thousands?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Golf doesnt cripple young people for life like football.

The well documented back problems suffered by Tiger Woods, among others, might dispute that. Whether all of his problems come from playing golf though is maybe questionable  Smiley Wink

Re: What is the motivation...........

Tiger's injuries were the result of his ex-wife flaying him with his favorite mashie.........

However, as Joanie mentioned.......... NASCAR.  Their  fans are the most likely to attend a race in anticipation of a (many) fiery crash.........but then they're mostly Southerners, so watching cars continuously going round in a circle might appeal to them, as would grass growing and paint drying.

Lurks, what motivates you to play golf, what do you get out of it?

Serious question.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: What is the motivation...........

Personal challenge, a level of physical activity, but probably most importantly social interaction with others who share my interest. I would venture to say you'd probably get the same sorts of answers from my sons about why they played rugby too.

I also have virtually no interest in watching golf on TV but I'm about to get off here and go watch the Brumbies beat the Waratahs on telly ๐Ÿ™‚

Well well well that is what I get out of Target shooting as well ๐Ÿ™‚

To me the personal challenge takes prime spot.

Well good for you, but I don't understand why you've brought me into this. I only mentioned Tiger's shaggers back.

Well the man I know who got crushed by a falling tree branch might disagree with you about not dangerous. Or the guy in Newcastle (?) struck and killed by lightning on the course. Or the people hit by wayward golf balls. Or even me with my current injured elbow from playing golf.

Anyway, kick off now. I'm gone.

You own a potentially leathal weapon. You or anyone close to you can use this weapon to kill others.

How many people have been killed with a football? How many people have been killed with a golf ball? I would like to see a robber entering a Bank with a football in his hand and daying "Give me all the money, or I'll throw the ball at you."

My husband plays golf and lawn bowls. If I would grab one of his golf balls and threaten a nasty neighbour with it, they would die laughing at me.

Football, soccer and all other ball games are not being played with leathal weapons. So I can not compare your chosen sport to any of the ball games. What motivates you to use a gun to hit a target? You could just as well use Darts and  Dartboard. Same skill require

Poddy every one is worried that you are going to go Doolally in your old age and shot someone.

The way you try to shot people down on the boards ๐Ÿ™‚
