There is one major difference, My firearms are locked in a steel safe bolted to the concrete floor to which only I have a key, the magazine and ammunition is locked in yet another separate secure metal locked container also bolted to the concrete floor to which only I have a key. That is a requirement under the firearms act, to which I and other licenced firearms owners strictly adhere.

What about that frozen leg of lamb in the freezer that is equally lethal and can be utilised to bludgeon someone to death, and then eaten so that there is no murder weapon.

The difference is that firearms, when misused, have been demonised as have the owners even though they are licensed and in compliance with the requirements of the law.
