Just a very quick search
Deaths during Australian Rules matches are not common, but nor are they rare, with three deaths reported last year. (2011)

that's sad. I don't if you can definitively say the heart attacks were caused by the knock though??

Here you go Rosie
Death by Ball
-- A 69-year-old man died several days after being struck in the back of the head by a tee shot from 10 yards away after walking out ahead of his playing partners at a Chino, Calif. course in October this year. His brain swelled, and despite surgeries, he died in a hospital.
-- A 66-year-old woman was killed in 2009 after being hit in the back of the head by a wayward shot hit by her son-in-law at a course near Loch Lom0nd in Scotland; she died a day after being struck.
-- A 67-year-old course marshall at a club in Arlington, Texas, died one day after being hit by a ball that caromed off a tree and into his head. He had taken shelter in a group of trees 200 yards from the tee box; sadly, the fatal shot was struck by his 31-year-old son.
-- A 16-year-old girl died after being hit in the head by a golf ball on a course in Sydney, Australia in 2005. News reports say she could have survived but was given the wrong dose of medication at the hospital -- also found to have collapsed beds and roaches in rooms -- causing her to suffer cardiac arrest.
-- A 13-year-old boy was struck and killed in 1998 while walking a course in Kilkenny,Ireland.
-- A 10-year-old boy was killed after being struck in the head by a golf ball in 1989 in Fairhope, Ala.
-- A 17-year-old Scottish boy was killed in 1993 after being hit in the head with a ball struck by his best pal during a friendly outing.

This is such a silly thread. I'm pretty sure that back up there somewhere ^^^^ you equated golf with your equally non dangerous "sport"

The problem I have with the ridiculous argument that golf clubs or knives or legs of lamb can also be used to inflict lethal harm is that that is not their primary purpose. Shooting and killing things was not the reason for their invention.
It's ok, I'm used to being ignored.

The 22 on the field are getting exercise but what of the thousands of others who sit or stand and watch?
That was my question , what motivates them?
The chance if seeing an injury or death perhaps?
I've seen more golfers than footballers wanting to slash their wrists after a game

Yes I did and still do, in fact it is probably safer than golf.
In all the years that I have participated in my sport there have been no serious injuries and since the club was founded there have been no fatalities.
In all the years that i have been a member of the club I can only recall a very minor injury on the range and that was when a young woman came to the range in a low cut top and a hot spent cartridge case from her hand gun lodged in her cleavage.
It was more of an embarrassment than an injury.
