Those that overstay their visa that fly in (majority)
or
Those that arrive by boat.......with the possibily of seeking asylum (unlikely) and sent back.
I generally keep up with what is going on and don't understand the governments fixation with boats when the numbers are the clear minority.

Yes, meep, there is no way they can arrive on a student visa, never attend a day at Uni/school and remain undetected.
When my girls applied for student visa's to the UK it was a very time consuming intensive application (UK do not want visa overstayers and had tightened up their conditions considerably in that regard 2010/2011) applying from a Commonwealth country. Those from non-Commonwealth countries had an even more vigourous application process. We had to send in every passport they had ever owned.. lucky I had kept all their expired ones.
My youngest is in Spain on student visa at present, that wasn't so quite intensive as the UK one.still one small thing can have it rejected and sent back and needing to be sent in again.
A lot of foreign students don't need to work, they have wealthy parents.
Seen in the SMH Chinese parents buying flash houses for their kids to live in while they study here?
The parents need to be wealthy, foreign students pay around $5000 for each Uni subject, times that by 8 subjects a year for 3 years at least, plus their accommodation/food costs.

The problem is larger than reported,
How do you know that though? To me that is one persons opinion.
Where do I find the other statistics?
They are in my head,
It could be 'in my head' that aliens land in Australia every night and drop off some illegal immigrants. does that mean that everyone should believe that to be true?

They are in my head, it is completely logical to me and quite illogical that the government is more focused on being bullies to desperate people on boats.
so you just make them up, to suit your cause

Nope, you are stating your opinion with out giving any details to back it up, which doesn't make anyone want to take that claim seriously.
I don't even see why anyone would find it necessary to compare people entering Australia with a passport and visa with people fleeing their countries due to persecution, famine, etc and are desparate enought to try and get here by boat.
They are two very different, separate issues imo.

I don't see it that way. I saw the previous and the current government's main focus on people smugglers. That is one element that does not need attention for authorised arrivals.

OK, fair enough. I'm not as good at retaining information. In fact, I often need to double check.
What are they?

Kevin Rudd in his last shot at being PM went down the same route - addressing/focussing on the large increase in numbers for IMA's arriving in Australia. If this thread is a 'dig' at the Liberal Govt it is a failure.

I think the government should be investigating the bogus claims of those arriving on student visas

Conditions may be strict and they are only supposed to work limited hours but the reality is very different.
Comment 2 - doesn't answer what these 'bogus claims of students on visa's' are.
If a student on a visa is attending school/Uni as per their visa conditions but they work a few extra hours a week than their visa says they can.. how does that make their claim for being here on a student visa 'bogus"

People would have conniptions if we had a country like Mexico on our border.
