I went to a major hardware store and they had a 2 pack of 3m masks for $19. The P2 type with the valve that expels air.
It was very comfortable.

a respirator while using chemicals (weed killing etc) and a dust mask while working in dust ( cutting up fire wood etc.
no real favorites, whatevers suitable
lovin your push bike pump idea, but i want to buy a compressor eventually
