What's the difference if you plead guilty??

Say you committed a crime. You have to plead guilty or not guilty.

What's really the difference between if you go to trial and be found guilty vs admitting you're guilty to start off with.

Do you get a more lenient sentence or something???

If not, wouldn't you be better off pleading not guilty and see how it plays out in trial.

1) No - that is up to the judge, but read my comments above some of the things they take into consideration.

2) A high number of felons discover God whilst in Prison and present that at their parole hearing as evidence that they have realised the errors of their way and are now rehabilitated.

3) There is a lot of difference to being locked up for 8 years, 25 years and all the variations in between, including the length of parole.

4) Your initial plea will be taken into account at your parole hearings. i.e. did you accept guilt straight up or take time to realize that you were guilty - this would affect the length of rehabilitiation.

Re: 2) I think it's ridiculous if the parole people showed more leniency just coz' someone discovers God. Do you know that for a fact Crickey??? You 've already said a few things contradicting the evidence you've provided.

Discovering God proves nothing regarding whether you've rehabilitated or not.

Anyone with any practical experience care to comment?

Exactly.

I'm wondering what I should believe here.

Are you suggesting there are few jailbirds here?:-p  Or perhaps expecting a qualified solicitor to waste their time giving us the ins and outs of the court system?

I've been watching Coronation Street, where one of the actors got charged with beating up his wife  (he didn't do it). Is that good enough?:^O

I never said it was a definitive factor *sigh* but it's one of many for someone to show rehabilitation - it's how they present the extent of their rehabilitation over all. *sigh*

and what have I said that contradicts?

Who says? You?

There was a young Australian fermale model in Indonesia, who was found with escasty tablet(s) on her and charged and put in jail. She converted to Islam while she was there. She was let go and returned to Australia not long after. According to the media she never followed that religion again once she got back to Australia, it was all for show.

I stand corrected. I remember that case very well and I actually praised her for converting to put on a good show. Lucky she's back in Aus, the penalty if she gave up Islam is death in some countries. But what a load of crap if a justice system thinks that converting to believe in God makes you a better person.
