What's the go with tonsilitis these days?

Daughters had a sore throat since yesterday. I just assumed the flu cause I had it last week and it started with a sore throat too.

But she is still complaining and when I looked down her throat tonight I can see that her tonsils are swollen and one is possibly **bleep**.

So what happens? Does she need a doctors visit and antibiotics? Google tells me it will pass in a few days to a week but to see a doctor if infections starts in. 

Any advice?

If there is any pain, and aspirin is OK to take, gargling that can help a bit.

A viral tonsilitis can become strep throat if not treated with antibiotics as the normal levels of bacteria explode.

Visit to the Dr best option. If she needs antibiotics it would unwise to delay seeing a Dr and getting started on them.

And take the full course of antibiotics, even if she starts to feel better. Sometimes antibiotics make people feel funny too, so they stop taking them ... You need to take the full course to prevent any lingering bugs possibly becoming resistant.

Tonsilitis can recur, but it has to be pretty persistent to merit removal these days.
