What's wrong with the young kids of today?
I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint.
Hesiod
(Hesiod was a Greek oral poet generally thought by scholars to have been active between 750 and 650 BC, around the same time as Homer)

the parent's of today have been stripped of pretty much every way of disciplining their kids.
Its no wonder there are so many kids taking advantage of this and acting like animals.
There are a hundred ways to discipline children, none of which involve hitting, or other forms of cruelty.
And no parent has been denied any of these methods.

who said anything about hitting or cruelty?
when my daughter was in grade 6 she was handed a pamphlet at school by some government run program outlining the rights of the child.
it virtually hogtied the parents - even grounding the kids or removing possessions/privileges was against the kid's rights.

I'd like to see that pamphlet, because taking away something that they value is a method recommended by psychologists. Sounds like a misguided programme to me.
