What sort of bank doesnt have 24 hour support in this day and age?

Just a little rant......logged on to my dad's bank account to pay a bill and discovered there were 2 identical withdrawals today, $183 each.

My dad has alzheimers and generally cant use his card, but I know he was out with the aged care people today so somewhere along the line he has bought something, god only knows what at that price, he had money for his lunch.....

Its too late to ring him or the aged care facility, none of the evening staff will know anything about it, so I thought I'd check with the bank where it was spent......nope, phone lines close at 7 Woman Frustrated

Seriously! What kind of bank doesnt have 24hr phone support, mine does. He's with NAB and they ony have 24 hours for lost or stolen cards......now I have to wait till tomorrow to figure out what's going on Woman Frustrated

NAB did an upgrade for internet banking on the weekend, and failed. Probably has something to do with the extra withdrawal. I didn't check it today.

So you probably would have been put in a queue for hours even if they had 24 hour service.

I suspect the double transaction is just a glitch, but they were only going out for lunch (in fact maybe only morning tea) no idea what he spent so much money on unless they let him shout everyone Smiley Mad

LOL Maybe. Which would mean he's well loved today!

How annoying! We cancelled dad's card, we give him cash in a wallet as he likes to have some on him. All other transactions are done with online banking, no withdrawals of cash, no card payments.

Some people will take advantage sadly.

I find you get better, more experienced staff in call centres in the daytime.

I am with NAB, never needed to call them in the evening so didn't know the times.. I agree 7pm cutoff for telephone banking is pretty early.

I might cancel it, or perhaps withdraw most of the money into an online saver that he cant access it. Despite his illness, he's not ready to give up certain things just yet, I think he'd be a bit upset if I took his card away.

Pretty soon I have to sell his house, I havent told him yet, not sure how he'll handle it. He lived there for 40 years 😞

Dad's house will settle at the end of the month. We have not told him it is sold but he hasn't asked either. Perhaps his is more advanced than your dad's. Hope it all goes well for you and you get this sorted out.

Maybe even an account with a restricted amount that can be accessed?

I think thats what I'll do, open a new account and transfer most of his money into that and just leave $100 or so in his usual account. He hasnt used his account for well over 6 months, so I dont know why he did today. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Hmmmm, just remembered I sent off a payment to the hospital last week. It was for $182, these 2 payments are $184.73 each, perhaps the hospital have messed it up?  That would make more sense I guess.

Stupid bank, if they had phone support I'd know by now.
