What sort of bank doesnt have 24 hour support in this day and age?

Just a little rant......logged on to my dad's bank account to pay a bill and discovered there were 2 identical withdrawals today, $183 each.

My dad has alzheimers and generally cant use his card, but I know he was out with the aged care people today so somewhere along the line he has bought something, god only knows what at that price, he had money for his lunch.....

Its too late to ring him or the aged care facility, none of the evening staff will know anything about it, so I thought I'd check with the bank where it was spent......nope, phone lines close at 7 Woman Frustrated

Seriously! What kind of bank doesnt have 24hr phone support, mine does. He's with NAB and they ony have 24 hours for lost or stolen cards......now I have to wait till tomorrow to figure out what's going on Woman Frustrated

Dad's house will settle at the end of the month. We have not told him it is sold but he hasn't asked either. Perhaps his is more advanced than your dad's.

Dad is in some kind of weird in between stage. You could meet him and it wouldnt be obvious straight away that he has a problem. Even the staff took a while to realise he's as bad as he is.

Lately though, we've had some really weird behaviours. He wears too many clothes....I picked him up for an appointment one day and he had on 2 singlets, 4 polo shirts, 3 pairs of tracksuit pants and a jacket....it was forecast 36 degrees that day Woman Frustrated

The staff have been trying to keep on top of it, but we think he goes back to his room and adds more each time he goes in. Sometimes he wears every pair of socks he owns all at once and one day he came out with his jocks over his pants 😞

He remembers some people but not others, just depends on whether he's having a good day or a bad day.

Whatever happened to our dementia thread? i went looking for it a couple of weeks ago, but couldnt find it.

One of my aunts keeps her own house and garden immaculately (she is 92) but has trouble placing/recognising people. The person is familiar to her but she can't place them ( niece etc) or name them. She acknowledges that is a problem to her.

My Mum was the opposite, she knew who everyone was but lost the ability to do everyday tasks around her own home.

Dad asked me my name last week but recognised my sister and chatted like he knew her. She didn't believe he had dementia that day but he then didn't know her the following day
😞
It must be so confusing for them

Dementia has some funny effects....sometimes hilariously funny, sometimes very sad.

My Dad asked me about a locksmith....he had moved about 30 years before.  He needed to have the door locks mended because none of them worked.  They did, but he had forgotten how to use them.

Another day we visited him in the nursing home which was just a few kilometres away on the day after a very noisy, flashy thunderstorm. He was joining in the discussion but said that his storm was nothing like the one we were talking about.

He turned round and ended his story by saying that he had to ride his motorbike through the storm to Bunnerong Power Station.

The family wondered why I left the room in a great hurry...I actually did not know whether to laugh or cry.  Dad had not worked at Bunnerong since he was an apprentice nearly 70 years ago.

Lyndel ♥

Those times are hard. A few weeks ago Dad asked me what snakes eat? so I suggested a few things but he asked me to find out for sure, so when I asked why, he said he had a snake in a cage and needed to feed it, didn't want it to die. I have finally reached the point of being able to go along with it without wanting to cry.

We have some interesting conversations but the hardest is  when he forgets what he wanted to say, in mid sentence.

Sometimes you laugh because you'd go crazy otherwise I think. When the nurse told me about the jocks outside the pants incident we had a little giggle and made superman jokes, but then I left and thought about how strong willed and independent dad was and how much he's changed in such a short time and how awful it must be when he has moments that he knows what is happening....its heart breaking to watch 😞

Punch, have you contacted the Bank and found out what happened with the money?

Don't let it slip. Lots of reasons the same amount has been taken out in one day, but very odd.

Just spoke to them now, its the payment I made to the hospital with probably a transaction fee attached to it which is why the amount was different.

Today its showing as todays date and both transactions are "withheld" so we think there was some kind of glitch when they processed it and either the merchant or the bank will fix it up in the next few days.

NAB seem to have a few of those 'glitches'. Especially the double transaction ones. It hasnt happened to me but I have seen the messages about that when logging in to netbank.

If it had been the correct amount, or if I'd paid in person I'd have known, but the whole thing just threw me.

I've charged people twice on my eftpos machine, so I know it can happen. Ours declines a transaction if it loses reception, so I process them again only to find the bank held the first one over and charged that one too Woman Frustrated
