I'm so relieved it was just a horse and not the rider.
so everyone there could carry on enjoying the festivities of watching horses do what they love. jumping to their deaths.
well thats what i heard one owner/trainer say....the horses love to jump, i've watched them galloping about in my paddock and jumping over obsticals just for the love of it.
ah hem! but those galloping horses jumping over things just for the love of it didnt have someone sitting on their back making them do it right?
kinda makes a difference doesnt it?
just because i might like to jump over hurdles doesnt mean id wanna do it with someone sitting on my back telling me too.

Having a little difficulty with sarcasm.?????
In this thread? Yes.
There is such a thing as sensitivity.
I am the proud owner of 3 Arabian mares.
I like them more than most people.

i agree, horses are an animal that if it breaks a leg its difficult and probably impossible to fix in most cases.
i wont argue about that with anyone. but i do think if enough recources was put to finding a way to do it it might be able to be done. but it cant now.
well, we know we cant mend broken legs in horses dont we? everyone agree on this point? oh i do hope you all do.
So sorry to burst your bubble David but with enough money and time it is possible to fix SOME horse's leg injuries.
As far back as the early 1970s Percy Sykes (a top Equine Vet in Sydney) managed to cure Igloo of shattered sesamoids in both front legs and get him back on the track. But not everyone has tens of thousands of dollars to even attmpt it.
In another case I remember, a top stallion broke his leg....it was fixed at great expense and time, but within 2 years he broke it again just in the paddock....and had not been able to serve mares as was intended when the leg was first repaired.

whats your point?
your now arguing we can fix horses with broken legs so lets make them jump?
i just dont get what your saying.
my point was simple, do i need to make it even more simple?
ok, just for you.
IF....(in the 99.9% of cases where fixing a horses broken leg is not an option) too expensive, too badly damaged ect ect,
can we say making horses jump at speed over obsticals with people on their backs making them do it they have a higher risk of falling over and causing their legs to break?
thus making the only option is to BLOW ITS BRAINS OUT ON THE SPOT!
WHY DO WE DO IT? (the making them jump over things bit) i'm sure they would prefer not to have their heads entered by a bullet.

you may ask why i'm talking about this in such a childish way
well trying it from any other way didnt sway the argument.
i get told the owners, riders, stablehands....car park attendants......everybody loves these horses so much they wouldnt do anything to on purposly hurt them.
but its a well known fact that ricing horses over jumps increases their likelyhood of tripping over and breaking a leg.
it also happens in ordinary on the flat racing.
so just tell me WHY anyone who loves a horse would make it do something that increases the chance of it falling and braking its leg?
thats my only question.....WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT
COME ON ALL YOU HORSE LOVERS, TELL ME WHY YOU WOULD DO SOMETHING YOU KNOW INCREASES THEIR CHANCES OF BREAKING A LEG?
there has to be a really good reason. you wouldnd trip granny down some stairs cos she might break her hip would you?
not even if they let you bet on the outcome huh.

My point was that you were making such a point of the fact that horses with leg injuries have to be put down and we all agreed on that.
My point is that we don't all agree on that...... with unlimited funds and time SOME horses can be saved.
But is it really kind to the horse....even with months of treatment things can still go wrong and the horse dies. The treatment is pretty brutal for horses with broken legs.
As for blowing a horse's brains out on the spot.....how ridiculous a statement is that from a supposed animal lover.
Has anyone ever heard a gunshot when a horse is euthanized at a racetrack?
I can not speak for other states or even in country areas of NSW but in Sydney horses are put down by lethal injection.
It might be a good idea to read up on the subjects you are posting about on the boards instead of shouting out all this nonsense.

I can assure you that talking in this childish way is not likely to sway the argument either. It just makes you look, well childish.
Have you thought that just making these wild statements are never going to win an argument against people who are quoting facts that they know from experience.
Anyone who read your thread on greyhound racing will know that nothing is ever going to change your mind, no matter how many facts they may quote. You get an idea in your head and won't even listen to other opinions or facts.
