I always thought they'd lay the tracks first and then build the platforms, ticket office etc.
The new Northwest Rail Link is being built and one of the stations is just next to us. The pace of work is amazing. Big cranes busy lifting concrete blocks and earthmovers shifting piles of dirt around.
The platforms are getting the finishing touches.
Pretty soon they'll start tunnelling under our building.
They're building a temporary bridge over the road using the steel from the Monorail they pulled down recently.
I wonder when the tracks will be laid.

I think everything is timed around the tracklaying itself. it requires specialised machinery like a pony ( a large 100's of millions of $ machine) and with all the ore/coal rail lines being built they are probably in demand as there aren't that many of them here .

what gets me, Lakes, is...wouldn't the machinery and the work involved laying the track ruin some of the work already done?

have they laid a base for the track ? the pony can work on an existing line so it can fit through if the corridor has been laid out properly. the operators are very well paid and it moves quite slowly .

I wouldn't know. Probably.

I reckon that's how it'll be. I'm sure they know what they're doing. It's quite interesting to watch the progress. They keep us updated all the time with leaflets and emails.

It is an exciting time for the Hills District. A train line again to the area.
Will you be utilising the rail service, when it is up and running?

If I'm still working there when it's finished, Deb, definitely.
