Where do they get those data from?

I just read that article and was wondering.

In the census we didn't have to tell them our BMI, no one ever knocked on our door to measure our waistlines or anyhting like that.

So how do they know what percentage of the population is obese and how do they know that people from Mount Gambier are fatter than other people unless they weighed the whole tows population?

"They" make it up toscare people into believing they are fatter than what theyactually are. They are also scare mongering the poor skinny people.  It is all based on money greed to get you to buy their product to make you thinner and join 'my' club to get fitter/thinner and to eat/drink this type of food because it is fat free and tasteless.

It says in the article it was a Roy Morgan survey, I've done that before and some of the questions get pretty personal.

I live in the South East and there are alot of overweight/obese people around here. I've got a few theories on why that is if you're interested, if not stop reading here 😄

The last few decades have seen a constant removal of services from rural people, successive governments are always selling off the assests down here for short term gain or removing basic services. This means we have less availability to things like mental health and basic health services and of course it affects employment.

It's a low socio economic area and there is a lot of public housing available. There has been a tendency to send unemployed & unemployable people here due to housing availability. These are often people without family support, drug habits, mental health issues and criminal records. Obviously these people need support which is limited here due the reasons stated earlier.

This is very fertile land with good rainfall there's so much potential but we need governments to stop seeing this area as a way to fund expenditure in cities.  A recent example is the forward selling of the state pine forests, low and behold Adelaide Oval gets a $535 million makeover (give or take a few mill) and a $40 million footbridge over the Torrens. Fantastic if this generates funds that are then filtered back to the people who are making the sacrifices for this to happen but I doubt it. This move cost jobs and confidence in this area and is a decision that has been made for the next 100yrs 😞

I'm not sure if the issues are the same further up toward Naracoorte and Bordertown. And although I stated there is a lot of overweight and obese people around 79% seems very high even for here!

to get real data that survey would have to be compulsory for say at least 1/10 of the population otherwise you get very twisted data that has nothing to do with reality.

From memory the survey I was employed to do was about drug, alcohol use and recreational activities (it was a few years back now). Although i had to visit every third house it was not compulsory. Most people were happy to take it and do the survey but I did get a few handed back when I went back to collect them that said they weren't doing it, who knows how many went in the envelope incomplete?
