Should the LOO and his team been in attendance (they are paid to be there) for the introduction of the legislation yesterday?
I saw some photos of both times the NDIS was introduced. The first time hardly anyone on the opp side attended. Yesterday they all chose to ignore the event.
They should be ashamed, imo. Abbott said it's (disability policy) waffly talk that should not be discussed in question time.

The bill, which will allow the scheme to be launched from July, passed with the support of all MPs
Not quite true. It passed with the support of all MPs WHO WERE PRESENT IN THE HOUSE.
I wonder if anyone can provide a breakdown, because if a photo I saw is anything to go by, the opposition benches were pretty much empty.
Are you for real????
it was passed on the 14th March.... not yesterday... the seats were not empty.

It could not have proceded without yesterday's bill.

There are many refinements to all bills that pass through Parliament...
For this one the changes were placed on short notice.... other plans had been made and the opposition would have been busy preparing for today's Budget right of reply...
Now this is more of an embarrassment.....
I thought it funny that the Government lost a vote in the house yesterday...
GOVERNMENT LOSES SUPERANNUATION VOTE AFTER MPS ABSENT
The vote was on a Coalition amendment to government legislation relating to superannuation and was the most significant loss on the floor of the House for the Government in the current hung Parliament.
The missing MPs included two ministers, Gary Gray and Mike Kelly, and government whip Graham Perrett. The fourth was western Sydney MP Ed Husic.
They were in the Great Hall of Parliament waiting to hear the Treasurer's post-budget address to the National Press Club and apparently unable to hear the bells that ring to alert MPs that a division has been called.
The Government lost the vote 72 to 68.

After the speech, which was given to near-empty opposition benches, Ms Gillard was embraced by Disability Reform Minister Jenny Macklin. Ms Gillard said that ''every cent'' raised by the increase in the Medicare levy would be allocated to a special fund over the next decade. By law, the fund will only be spent on supporting people with disability.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott was in a radio interview at the time and not present for the speech.

You should have a look at both photos.
The seats were empty yesterday when the medicare component was not debated but voted on and the seats were almost empty for the first vote. Twice when the NDIS has been voted on most in opposition did not attend.

It could not have proceded without yesterday's bill.
yes it could... it already had been passed...
It could not have been funded however.... 😉

MP's sick child furore: Abbott still doesn't get it, says PM

What's this? Anything to avoid the subject at hand time or something?
For this one the opposition should have demonstrated they do care about people rather than turn their back and refuse to attend, for the second time on this topic.

National Disability Insurance Scheme bill passes both houses of Parliament
Friday, March 22, 2013
by Janine Simpkin
At our information session held Thursday 21 March, 2013 many of our families that we support showed an interest in knowing more about NDIS. Have a read of the latest email from “every Australian Counts “informing us that
the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill was passed by both houses of Parliament and will soon become law.
What really counted today...
Today our nation's capital has seen some tumultuous events.
But in the midst of all the upheaval you made history. The National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill passed both houses of Parliament and will soon become law.
Our federal parliament today unanimously demonstrated their commitment to the NDIS.
It is every Australian's NDIS and today every MP stood up to show their support for this reform.
You made that happen.
And we won't stop now. We'll make sure that our politicians know that we won't stop campaigning until the NDIS is implemented for all of us, for every person with disability, their families and carers.
By working together, we will get this done.
Thank you for your support.
Yours,
John Della Bosca
And the Every Australian Counts campaign team
