I don't think Buddhism is a religion. It does not require faith or worship of a god.

I believe that Karma "happens" frequently.
I don't think if I give to a charity, something good will happen to me. I don't rely on something good happening, just because I did something good.
I also don't feel that all bad things happen because someone was bad. I think life has its ups and downs, and all-arounds.
I'm not a Buddhist. I do like many aspects of the religion.
My kids heard the phrase, Oh-oh, Karma, karma, karma, a lot when they were growing up. 😉
I agree with lots of that, not that that's important.
But wouldn't believing that giving to charity would in fact mean that something good will happen to you, in this life or another? Isn't that the essense of Karma?

“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” ― Gautama Buddha
Religion-
.the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

yes, siggie,it has. and i'm answering THIS post before i finish reading the thread. it felt like something i needed to say right away.
i state that i'm wiccan,but i think i should simply state that i'm a witch,from now on.
too many people use the reference that wicca is a "new" religion,so be it.
mine is an old one. and it takes work,to use it,and to live by it. it sucks, sometimes,to NOT do as you want to do. but that's part of keeping the karmic wheel rolling right, for yourself.
i forgot that,for a bit,but i've got it back now.
it will change my life,i know that. maybe not soon, but it will.
and if i die poor, well, that's because i chose to,and not complain about it. THAT's karma. i am rich in so manyy other ways...:)

The only way I can answer that is to put it the same way to you.
Do you give to charity because you think it will put you in a good light with God? Are you relying on the donations to help get you into heaven? I might be wrong, but I'd guess that answer is no.
My idea about Karma is that I can try to be a good person, and hope that it all pans out well for me. At the end of the day, whatever happens, happens. Karma or no Karma.

Well, what can I say.
I am not the one who said that I believed in Karma, you did.
I was just trying to clarify if you actually do or don't believe in Karma.
The charities I give to I do it because I believe God wants me to, that I am doing His will, and because I believe it is the humane thing to do, a good thing to do, that I have an obligation, a duty.
At the end of the day, whatever happens, happens sounds more like "Que Sera, Sera" than Karma.

"
Law of Karma
The law of Karma is a universal process, whereby causes lead to effects. This is something that all of us are already familiar with,
whether or not we use the word Karma to describe it. Newton’s third law of motion, that every action leads to a reaction, is an
application of the law of Karma. Whether we are talking about physics or daily life in the world, it is extremely useful to understand the
law and process of Karma so that we may regulate or direct the process. We can soften the impact of the playing out of our past
Karma’s, and can choose our own future Karma if we are willing to put in the effort to learn how to do it."

Galatians 6:7-8 7Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his
own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
