Then you leave yourself open to the administrators becoming puppets of someone.

No way.
Refs don't work, you would never be able to get consensus.
Better to have parties that want to do it and they outline policies and we vote for them.
Then we can vote them out when we don't like them.
Nope - 3 years a freaking long time when you are dealing with the likes of Abbott and Hockey and the crew.
What a lot of people seem to forget is that it took two (unsuccesful) partys to combine and become the LNP to oust Labor way back when.
I honestly couldn't care less who is in power and policy means nothing to me because they all promise, they all break promises, and none of them live in the real world.
Just cracks me up that now, once he is in a pile of krap, Tony is telling us he will run this govt as promised, and will do what the voters expected of him...........
Clearly a case of amnesia over the last 10 months
Too little too late, bye bye Tony. (Please)

Not at all! The people decide what is needed. The people decide at regular refendums how many want whatever. The administrators implement the decided action/s.
Get rid of the lying, costly, unnecessary politicians and their lies. Simple.
