We are selling our house & last weekend had our first open day. Our house looked gorgeous and everyone who came through said how lovely it was. We had 3 offers which eventially was down to one because of finances etc.
Well this one couple who were in a position to go ahead were very eager, and kept promising all week to go into the estate agents & sign the contract. However by Thursday they hadn't shown up and weren't answering their mobiles, so we had resigned ourselves they weren't genuine. On Friday THEY actually rang the agent, very apologetic and wanted to book an appointment to come in this morning to go ahead. Well, they didn't show up again.
I actually thought they would go through with it this time after it was THEM who rang the agent. Needless to say I feel very down at the moment. Why would anyone do this? Even our agent has never come across this type of behaviour, and can't understand why they have mucked everyone around all week.
Just wanted to vent, as we are back to square one.

Why do people do this......gosh..........Selling/buying a house is one of the most stressful things in life.... I have been thorough it myself and the advice I can give you is - don't allow the stress to get to you, your health is more important. It will all be behind you soon. Hang in there

I also think selling a house is one of the most stressful things. You will have lots of ups and downs, as it looks like a sale and then it isn't,. sometimes over and over, until the right buyer comes along.
But try not to worry too much, it will happen

Grapes, I was an agent in Sydney for over 30 years. This is very common and it is usually because of "buyers remorse". They fall in love with the property, spend the next few days telling family and friends of the amazing house they have found, visit the bank get finances in order, and then usually within 5-6 days reality sets in. Can I really afford this, what if one of us loses our job and can't meet repayment, am I too young to take on this level of debt etc. you get the pic.
The agent will usually be aware of this, and we used to make a point of taking the buyers back on a private inspection within the first week so that they can re inforce their original decision to go ahead, or alternatively make a positive decision to pull out.
We always also advised the seller to instruct us to advise both the buyer and their solicitors that although their offer was accepted that the property would stay on the market until contracts were exchanged, and any subsequent potential purchaser was informed that there was already an offer on the property without disclosing the offer.
This was done to protect the seller from having their property off the market for in some cases up to a month waiting for contracts to be exchanged.
The purchaser was kept in the loop at all times if there was other interest.
This seemed to work in the inner city market I was in. But everyone needs to be kept in the loop.

I'd say they are playing games with you so that you may lower the price next week. I've seen this kind of thing happening. Don't worry it will sell.

Having two mortgages with a drug growing tenant from hell who never paid his rent and selling the house the drug growing tenant from hell was living in was very stressful.
In the end we evicted the drug growing tenant from hell and re-listed the house with the help of a Jenman agent. I always rave about Jenman agents, after dealing with some of the agents from the more well known agencies in town and their underhanded tactics, the Jenman people were amazing.
Here's a link to their website http://www.jenman.com.au/index.php

Hi Grapes, did you sell your house? Noticed your thread about the shipping container.

Refuse to sell to them if they do come back........ chances that the settlement will be smooth doesn't sound likely.....
They have shown you who they are, believe them the first time.....a new buyer is around the corner...
