Another brilliant insight into the lefts obsession in curtailing our freedoms and Freedom of the press.
We must not allow a few politicians to derail this reform just because they are in a high population ethnic electorate and their ethnic electorate want to see 18c stay, why is this? this is something we should all be on our guard against.
Politicians are elected to represent all Australians not just the few in their electorate, we mustn't be dictated to by the squeaky wheel but fight for all Australians to have the same rights and freedoms.
The arcane argument thet we will all turn into racists and bigots if we are not chained up is the mantra of the left and Conroy and Gillard were the masterminds behind the shameful push to restrict ordinary Australians.
This act, in the end, saw Gillard off and so she should be but the fight still goes on and the Left should be exposed for the shameful restrictions they are supporting: read on
In recent years, the Left has become more and more cut off from ordinary people, and now views the state, not the masses, as the best guarantor of truth and fairness.
And so its old belief that people could be trusted to think and speak freely, and to reach rational conclusions, has been replaced by a poisonous, paternalistic conviction that if we hear the wrong thing we might instantly turn into psychotic racists or morons.
Behind the Left’s love of section 18C lies a far larger historical story about its abandonment of its old liberal ideals, and its vicious turning against the masses it once might have fought for.
The Left no longer believes people should be protected from “tyrannies”, but rather than we must be protected from ourselves and our base instincts.

Lakeland, I think "marxist - libertarian" was a typo, what he actually meant was Machiavellian librarian.
simply because he uses the term marxist does not make it so. especially considering some of his colleagues consider themselves champions of free speech. i know he isn't a marxist. the term libertarian is misused by these nongs also.

Brendan O'Niel has always been left always will be, but an intelligent left that I certainly like to read.
If only we had more like him.

Ahhh. Brendan O'neil.
New poster boy for those on the right that need a mouthpiece to provide them with an opinion that they can then regurgitate.

Here is a challenge for you Silverfaun: to find a single piece of written literature from Brandan O'Neill that is NOT right leaning.
Cause in all the years I have been following him, I don't recall a single word written that in line with left wing principles.
Does he agree with global warming? No
What about carbon emissions? No.
Does he think we should we act against racism? No.
What about the rights of same sex couples in marriage? No.
Does he write respectfully of lower classes or those that are disadvantaged? No.
Free speech at any cost? Yes please!
A Marxist my foot. In fact the only bit of the Manifesto he seems to have registered is Marx's (out of context) praise for capitalism.
O'Neill doesn't quite understand that being anti-government and anti-regulation does not make you a Marxist.

Most of those dot points are radical left wing and Green obsessions and any sane person would avoid them if they wanted to be taken seriously.

Which of his opinions do you deem to be left wing?

Really?
Any 'sane' person would not agree with same sex marriage?
Any 'sane' person would not agree with the state acting against racism?
They are barely left wing, let alone radical.
He is so right winged he could well be Thatchers secret love child. Marxist indeed!
