Malcolm Turnbull says Australia has no stronger alliance than that with the United States.
The prime minister met with US Vice President Joe Biden in Sydney on Tuesday, just hours after Mr Turnbull's new ministry was sworn in, revealing in a press conference the pair discussed the allied efforts to fight the global threat of terrorism and Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.
Mr Biden said it was important to stand together against terrorism and the alliance has been a source of strength for both countries for decades.
'Australian and American troops are working side-by-side in Iraq, as I said, training local partners to lead the fight on the ground, and we're flying missions over Syria, leading the global humanitarian effort,' he said.
On the TPP, now awaiting approval from US Congress, Mr Turnbull said it 'is a great free trade agreement, 40% of the global economy'.
'We know that while there are political obstacles, the eloquence of the vice president and the President, all of the wiles he's developed over so many years in the Congress, all of that political capital is going to be brought to bear to bring the TPP home in the Congress.'
'The Biden touch will deliver the TPP and that will be very important for economic growth in our region,' he said.
Timed after the Aussie elections to make sure Mr ex Goldman Sachs director Malcom Turnbull was firmly in the Prime Minister's seat.
To drive home the highly unpopular TPP?
A bit of sabre-rattling in the face of the Chinese military expansion in the South China Seas?
Do they need Aussies to help them fight their interminable wars again?

Mr. Biden, like any other politician, knows that the time for free travel will end on 8th November for him. Government in USA will change that day, so of course he is taking all last minute oportunities to travel the world. Well, at least as far as he can find an explanation for a reason to visit those countries.
Donald Trum or Hillary Clinton will choose their own buddies to travel at taxpayers expense.
Same and more of the same everywhere you look. Big discussions are only excuses and of no value.
I love politicians.

if that doesnt work they try offering shed loads of money, here you take this money for your rock.
if that doesnt work they form a mining company, tell the govt they have found shiny baubles under that old rock.

Well, not all of them but certainly the majority of them think that.
My OH is Canadian but his parents lived and worked in the USA for many years and his late brother's family still live there. Even after a number of visits to Australia over 30 odd years they still had some misconceptions about the country.
The best I ever heard was when a seller kept telling me that the reason my parcel had not arrived was because there were floods in my area. The floods were in Brisbane...I am in Sydney. Things got very heated before my parcel finally arrived...she just would not believe that we were not in any way affected by floods in another state.

I lived and worked in Washington DC for many of my adult years before moving to Ft Lauderdale Florida.
Most Americans thought Australians yodelled and wore lederhosen.
The best decision I ever made was to come home to Australia.

We, the women of Australia, have no need of shotguns.
If I had one I know exactly where I would point it.

Here in Australia, a drone can also be a very, very, very boring person.
