Why are people such staunch Labor voters?

Particularly when every Labor governement in living history has amounted such huge debts whilst in office?

Or is it just that they blindly follow the old mantra, that 'Labor is for the working man?'

Now don't get me wrong - I don't particularly like Abbott, and I sure as h3ll didn't like Rudd or Gillard, but there's so much more to a political party than it's leader.

Feel free to discuss...

I saw the pink batts as 'something back''' after being a family spending 48 cents in every dollar on taxes for most of our lives.

I thought it was a great thing and I'm still very thankful for it

Oh, so you've been earning that much that long and still couldn't buy your own? But have another house.

The word hypocrite comes to mind.

The 'top end of town' not only pays it s fair share of tax it pays ALL the tax.the lower income bracket get rebates far in excess of what they contribute.

Those on welfare pay no tax whatsoever

So please explain to me just how the poor are being bled

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

No we couldn't at the time.other things were happening, but that's not really any of your business

And you can speak for yourself btw. Didn't you just say tax payers should be getting something back from their taxes?

Well. I feel we did

YOU put it on the forum. I only speak for myself, not sure what the heck you're trying to imply there.

You want it both ways. Businessess pay the amount of tax they should, according to the rules. The fact that they may be able to afford a better accountant than you can doesn't mean they aren't entitled to deductions. And then you expect MY tax dollars to pay for YOUR batts? Buy your own.

What do you define as ALL the lower income bracket? What salary range..to you... is this lower income bracket that get rebates far in excess of what they contribute?

ALL Australians taxpayers are eligible for $18 000 tax free threshold.. whether they earn $2000, $20,000 or $200 000 p.a.

The low income tax rebate was reduced accordingly when the above tax threshold was introduced. What are these other rebates your refer to?

Those on welfare pay no tax whatsoever - That is not accurate at all. People on welfare can work p/t, they have tax deducted from their C/L payment and their wage.

Edit to add: GST as she ele pointed out.

The Govt collects tax from private individuals, businesses & corporations and redistributes it.. one of the areas of redistribution is social welfare.. if you don't accept that then one doesn't accept the way this country is governed.

There are adults who have no children of their own, (which is fine), they don't want their taxes going to family tax benefits, or schools.....

A word in your wing like pink ear TGSE those on welfare get all of their income from the taxpayers via the government including all of the GST they pay, are you saying that that is a contribution??

The mind boggles

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Yes, if their benefit is $250 pw. and they spend $100 p.w. on groceries.. then part of that payment goes to the Govt in GST.

The person on a benefit  doesn't get anything for that amount, nor does the supermarket.. as they collect it for the Govt.

Yeah. Labour's great. You get NBN. Yet some people are taxed beyond they means to pay for it. But as long as you get  your NBN.
