Why can't we just make these types of dogs illegal? ?:|

A 49 year old jogger is lucky to be alive after being mauled by some loose American Staffordshires this week. He was so badly injured that the paramedics could see through his chest to his heart. One of the dogs didn't even let go of the mans torso when a passerby trying to help smashed the dog over the head with a concrete pot.

Here is the article: http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/dog-owner-fined-four-months-before-jogger-attacked-20130527-2n6p8.html

Yes I know any dog could be feral if in the wrong hands or if it is neglected. And yes I know that the stats show that a significant number of reported dog incidences come from dogs other than the dangerous breeds.

BUT! The ones that do the most damage are the one that bite and hang on while doing the death shake. And those breeds are well known. In NSW by far the biggest rate of attack occurs from breeds such as the animals in the article.

So why not just ban them?

And why oh why would any sane person think that this type of dog is an acceptable pet? Particularly if they have children?

it does snow around this area, but yeah it gets hot in summer. Maybe they clip them? I think they'd have to, to make it easier to find ticks,

You shouldn't (well its not a good idea) to clip them as their coat (and other similar long/thick coat breeds) protects them from the heat somewhat.

There are lots of breeds not suited to our climate in my opinion and I wouldn't consider having one, but the breeders will defend themselves stating that their dogs coats insulate them from both heat and cold.

I had a double coated dog many years ago. He was black too. And I moved to Broken Hill with him. Poor bugger, he drooled more than that dog on Turner and Hooch. He wasn't a drooly breed but he was just so hot all the time.

i have never seen a clipped/shorn husky. if you cut their hair the pattern gets lost as the undercoat is white and people shallow/stupid/insensitive enough to buy a husky won't spoil the look.

I knew a family once that bought a pair of St Bernard's then whinged and moaned that the electricity bill had tripled!
Poor dogs had to be kept air conditioned all summer!
Wonder how long till were told this thread is off topic? Lol

First dog after I married was a beautiful Bearded Collie x Irish Wolfhound with a double coat. One year we had him clipped to keep him cooler....never again! That poor dog felt the heat more IMO and was so sad....I'm sure he must have seen himself in the mirror 😞

My hubby's ex had a big fat fluffy cat that they clipped. Poor cat was too embarrassed to show itself for days afterwards (so I'm told)
