My only gripe is when they are doing the SAME job.
what were the responses from the companies?

I have always been on a higher hourly rate than my husband. Same job, same qualifications but done in a different order which apparently make mine worth more. No logic.

In the industries where men get paid more than women, the incidence is perpetuated because women keep accepting the jobs for the lower rate in an effort to "break into the field".
Women tend to think/believe that they are so lucky to get the job in the non traditional field that they are prepared to take the job under whatever circumstances are offered, whereas men and thus other companies realize that to attract men they have to offer competitive wages/salaries.
I also believe that it has a lot to do with traditional attitudes to women in the workforce. Women simply are not in the same demand as men in some circumstances because the employer still has old school ingrained beliefs and ideals.
As a general rule men don't take maternity leave, sick days to care for the children etc and all of the other associated needs for leave that arise in raising children and cost an employer money. The old school way of thinking is that men are the primary wage earner whereas women are the primary caregivers and the most vulnerable emotionally.
Antiquated, yes. But it takes years to reverse centuries of ingrained beliefs and ideals.

women get paid less because in many cases they accept it and often undervalue themselves. some woman are too scared to stand up for themselves in the fear they will be branded feminists - god forbid, yet it was feminists who gained most equal rights for women. women can also be their own worst enemies as they don't support each other and help each other as men do. men are more conditioned to teams but women from the time they are little are pitted against each other.

Women get paid over 10 times as much as men in the Adult film industry.

do they? I have never noticed...I get paid more than hubs, always have done.
Though I think it depends on the industry, I have a few girlfriends who are geologists and accountants and their wage seems to be on par if not more than their male counterparts.
Most jobs I have had, I have negotiated a salary that suits both me and my employer.
It can be daunting though and that is where I agree with vampire-teddy, that women do not support each other

Maybe that is because men get paid for performance and effort. 😛
