Seriously have you thought about why people still believe in a certain beliefs when all the evidence is against it?
Joseph Smith the founder of Mormonism is a convicted conman and admitted to making up stories in the courts. THe stories of Mormonism is so bizarre and the archaeological claims have been thoroughly disproven yet Mormonism is the fastest growing religion in the States.
How is it that people still believe when all the evidence and reason is against it?

Do current Mormon's get ex-communicated from their church and family if they leave the church?
The do try and recruit more people into their religion with by door knocking by young men who are required to travel outside the US for a year or 2 for that purpose.

I am sure, like all churches, they have members who are relatively normal and are not extreme in their beliefs.

No they don't. They can become inactive and still be a member, ex-communication from the church is just that, from the church.
I think you possibly have them confused with Exclusive Bretheren.

Everyone has inadequacies, but what is it that someone cannot see what others can clearly see?

Oh despair, I read the title as "Why do people still follow Monmanism?
KG: "certain people need certain beliefs to prop up their own inadequacies", that is not
pompous KG, Marx said religion is the opiate of the people.
Not much difference!
