Why do we have to vote for someone that we don't want to?

This concerns the preference voting system which to me is totally ludicrous.

If I have to vote I want to vote for one person, not 5 in order of preference.

When I asked a few people how they voted on the ticket they said they put a 1 next to their preference and

then numbered the boxes 2 to 5 in order of descending,(bypassing the box numbered 1).

So they didn't vote for their preferences,(they voted in order).

At least it makes you understand why some members are voted in via this system.

It seems to be that people that follow politics vote in the order of least disliked for the other preferences.

At least on the main ticket you have a choice,(vote above or below the line).

As only a small percentage seems to vote below the line and number each box it seems like a waste of paper

to have it on a ticket.

What's your preference?

The voting system is in need of an overhaul. My preference would be to make the result almost instantaneous. It would be helpful if other changes were made, i.e., an IQ test for all candidates.

hahahahaaahahaha but that would knock off 99.9% of LNP candidates - good outcome for Australia though.

it is the way the 2 party system works.

its not about what you want its about how they minipulate the system for their own benifit.

They will only give preferences to a candidate they know has no chance of getting in or one they know will support them

its rigged and dodgy as

One vote for one candidate would make it simpler,(they would have to set the bar fairly low if an IQ test was

used),shok.gif

Going by the intelligence of some of the others they might not be able to find enough candidates for some

of the other parties either.

Isn't this the same way they tick off the 'defect' stars.

Steady on b1g. All the major parties embrace baboonery. When my hypermnesia fails me I visit the state library. I have read many amusing articles concerning our alleged politicians. We once had a Liberal politician that didnโ€™t know the difference between a black and white TV and a colour TV. When returning to Australia his customs declaration indicated that the TV set in question was a black and white set. When challenged the Liberal grub blamed his assistant for the clerical error. What an intellectual dwarf the pollie must have been.

More recently we had a federal treasurer who failed to lodge his tax return. He โ€˜forgotโ€™ was his excuse. Imagine the stupidity of that statement. Line that up with a cricket situation. The first wicket falls and Michael Clarke strides to the crease. He reaches the stumps and then slaps his forehead. โ€œDear oh dearโ€, says Richie Benaud, โ€œMichael Clarke has forgotten his bat.โ€ An intellectual dwarf paid as a federal treasurer; wonders will never cease.

My picture of ALL MPs is that they each have a long piece of string that leads from their office to the pay office. It would be the only way they could make that weekly journey to pick up their wage.$

If you think that the system you have isn't good then just check out the Hare Clarke system that Tasmania and the ACT have.

After living in Aus for 13 years I did get a surprise when I came back to NZ and saw the vote was one person one party, feel that's the way it should be, just gets to confusing other wise.
