This concerns the preference voting system which to me is totally ludicrous.
If I have to vote I want to vote for one person, not 5 in order of preference.
When I asked a few people how they voted on the ticket they said they put a 1 next to their preference and
then numbered the boxes 2 to 5 in order of descending,(bypassing the box numbered 1).
So they didn't vote for their preferences,(they voted in order).
At least it makes you understand why some members are voted in via this system.
It seems to be that people that follow politics vote in the order of least disliked for the other preferences.
At least on the main ticket you have a choice,(vote above or below the line).
As only a small percentage seems to vote below the line and number each box it seems like a waste of paper
to have it on a ticket.
What's your preference?
One vote or ?,

this would be very sweet
Nationals could lose party status after disastrous showing
The formal alliance between the Liberal and National parties in Victoria could be dumped after a disastrous performance by the Coalition in the regions.
The National Party faces losing party status in Victoria, with its state-wide primary vote reduced to about 5.3 per cent, compared to 6.8 per cent in 2010.
Although thousands of pre-poll votes are still to be counted, the Nationals appear to have lost the seat of Shepparton, which it has held for 47 years, to rural independent Suzanna Sheed after suffering a whopping 32.5 per cent swing.

one vote.
2 fed elections ago.......I noticed in horror, whilst in the polling booth looking at the various flyers....that my preferred party candidate had the opposition party candidate listed as second!!! .....this was the election where nearly 1000 ballot papers went missing in our electorate of Forrest in Bunbury.
Whole system is a rort and rigged imo.
The powermongers will always find a way to rort this as presently stands using preferentials in the end equation.
Present system is not an example of democracy

If a higher IQ was a prerequisite for a political career, guaranteed Abbot & Hockey would lose their jobs to this likely looking pair of potential candidates, these two are absolute masters of strategy & begulement, making Tony & Joe look like complete amatuers...

The end result might be the same and we the public might still be left 'wearing' the same substance, but at least we would be entertained by the method adopted.

But do we need more nose pickers and snot rollers in our federal parliament? Surely Rudd's habits were over the top but there has been no increase in decorum.

mb, we can all post funny youtube clips and funny photos. I've even got one of the funniest photos going around. It shows a sign on a door that reads: Julia Gillard, Prime Minister. There's a side-splitter for sure.

Very funny. But I've gotta ask, where on earth were his security/bodyguards? I can't believe a complete stranger was able to follow & verbally harass him so loudly & at such close quarters for such a length of time.

We could ask.....we could even wonder what the answer would be but I prefer the attitude 'I don't really care'
Warrants same attitude TA and his cronies afford us when we ask 'Where's the proof you renounced your Dual Citizenship under Section 44 of The Australian Constitution?' imo.
