Then why is Polygamy so widespread ?Is it?
In the distant past child needed 2 parents to survive, at least for few years. Woman alone could hardly go hunting with an infant or 2 in her arms. So, one woman and one man would have usually baby every 2 years. It would be hard for man to provide for 2 families, until the society became more developed, and man did not have to personally do all the work.
I do not have a problem with what ever structure of family people choose; their lives, their choice.
I depends how distant the distant past is..... if it was caveman times they lived in tribes didn't they? So everyone would provide for each other. It's probably the same in some other tribes now. Interesting idea to explore.
Same today in a lot of places.
Communial bringing up of kids.

One wife is sufficient misery for any man. We need to end the practice of polygamy just to protect those poor men from themselves.
Unless, of course, one of you knows a polygamist who would take my wife off my hands. Then I'd be all for polygamy.

Polks
Why do you say that ?
In your eyes only, some think it is good.
Although with some wives, I can see why a husband has more than one !

The law is there to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

In nature monogomy is very much the exception rather than the rule - certainly among birds and probably among those animals who pair up to raise their young you will find that the female (before laying her eggs or bearing her young) will copulate with any likely male who comes her way. among merkats only the alpha female breeds and woe betide the offspring of any reckless female who dares to flout the rule.
Monkeys and apes are certainly not monogomous - though the alpha males get most of the action - so it is a safe bet that our distant ancesters were not monogomous either, and you only have to read the bible to realise that that monogomy is a pretty recent concept.
