Why towing boats will not help

Oh so THIS is what all those pesky refugees are complaining about.

This picture shows the aftermath of an attack at a Shia Muslim rally at Meezan Chowk in Quetta on September 3 2011 that killed 42 and injured 80 people - mostly Hazaras.

Above them is an Australian-sponsored billboard saying "Don't go on a leaky boat - the illegal way. Just stay where you are".

Just stay where you are. Walk the streets of Quetta or Kandahar and just wait to be blown to high heaven. Just stay where you are.

I must be reading that UNHCR PDF wrong because those figures seem extremely low. How can there be an estimated 43 -45 million refugees around the world as an average and they state those figures.?

Are the figures shown only those who are registered with the UNHCR ? 61,231 resettled worldwide. What time frame is that. ? ?:|

I am sure Australia is not even in the top 30 nations for receiving and processing refugees /asylum seekers.

that would have been for 2011 if we're reading the same document and yes, this is about the UNHCR refugee resettlement programme in response to a comment earlier that we dont do enough.

Another thing is that most of the people who have arrived here recently and are in detention centres, are not classified as refugees until they have been processed.  And, very little processing seems to be going on.

The ALP is talking about excising the whole of the Australian mainland, and the LNP is talking about altering or exiting the International Covenant on Refugees and changing our legislation.

I predict that the future will judge us on our current response to the refugee situation just like we now look at the white Australia policy.

I agree and I believe that future generations will look back at this time with shame and I hope that future generations will be more compassionate and accepting of all people.

Such is life.
