Hawk, I spoke to my X after 40 years because his second wife died and he rang me to ask if I had ever contemplated marriage again...
He's a pensioner
with a dicky heart and a doubtful other dicky
Has had bowel cancer and a stent in his heart
Is close to 80
and is looking for someone to care for him into his death bed....
I was not making idle conversation!
But then again, I am a lot older than you, and my experiences are different, so wait until you are nearing 80 and if single I bet you begin to think about someone who would care for you

At this stage the way things are going I will be the last one standing if I dont get taken out on the bike first.
As for sitting / laying around like a veg with luck I will be able to avoid that, one way or the other when the time comes.

I was with my husband for 30 years, I do miss him and some times I do get lonely, I have the children here and the grand children but it does not make up for not having your partner with you.
As for another partner, I dont know, still to raw

I don't think any of you need to worry too much about nursing home care. The way our current Government is going, by the time you need it they'll have done away with it altogeher and brought in mandatory euthanasia instead.

. No one likes being single
I beg to differ with this broad statement, Georgia.
Some do not like being single......some love it !!!
Some are very happy in their own company, albeit with an occasional man or woman..
With the hectic times we live in.... to be a bit lonely at times can be a blessing.

I lost my husband 18 months ago....and find positives and negatives with being single
Positives my money is my money to spend on me.... i have a bit more social life as I now have a lot more free time.
my husband was quite ill and I cared and nursed him for the last 7 years
Negatives... I miss the companionship and the love we had.... and also the shoulder to lean on when things were tough
I knew i could shout and scream and he would listen and emotionally support me.
i have rediscovered me this year....and I don't think i need another man full time but who knows what will come in the future
I wil never say never.....
Kudo to your post Blue I couldn`t agree with you more....
