Why.......................................??

Firstly, it is quite warm in WA at the moment :-p, everyone who knows me, knows how much I love the warm weather.

Catching up with friends yesterday, some were complaining bitterly about the heat. One turned to me and, largely in jest, told me to "stop grinning like that", another commented that I "need more meat on my bones, then I would be normal."

Im fairly certain this question has been asked before, but Im going to ask it again.

Why is it acceptable for larger people to point out that I "need more meat on my bones"?? It is not OK for me to tell them they need to lose some, certainly without offending them. And why am I expected to be flattered by such comments??

I hear you lis...

well not so much any more, but up til a couple of years ago.

Things like,

gee do you need to run round the shower to catch the drips?

turn sideways and you'll disappear

look at you, you are all bone.

I hated how skinny I was and covered up with baggy clothes. Made me feel so much worse hearing the "compliments" but look out if I said anything to those needing to loose wieghtX-(

I'd like to know why its ok too

Its more the double standard Pepe, if I told them they would find the heat more tolerable if they werent fat, there would be no approving nods or giggles around the table.

Maybe you're half right, I was with people I had known since we were children, the others upwards of 10 years.

Its jealousy lis.  They are jealous that you don't feel uncomfortable in the heat when they do.

I am overweight and I try really hard not to joke about my very skinny co-worker, the only time I do is when she is wearing a polar fleece jumper and its 40+ outside.

Someone explain to me the logic that skinny people cope with heat better???

I figured fat people have more skin therefore more surface area for evaporation for cooling?:|

I can't stand the heat.

LOL, its not jealousy. Noone is jealous of how badly I feel the cold, I can assure you. Except my husband maybe, who would prefer to live in an igloo. LOL.
