Will Labor be banished throughout the land?.. YES

Will Labor be banished throughout the land?... YES but they and their small band of supporters will still not get the message

Only once before has the ALP been exiled from office nationwide. This time the dry spell could be a lot more testing.

With the exception of a small oasis in the Australian Capital Territory, as of this weekend it looks highly probable that the ALP will be consigned to opposition throughout the land. T

he likely defeat of Jay Weatherill's government in South Australia and Lara Giddings' government in Tasmania will leave Labor languishing out of office federally and in all of the states.

The people voted 53% to the LIBS a MAJORITY and 47% to Labor a LOSS but due to the gerrymander

The majority vote in SA looks like missing out again if the indies go with labor.

So no matter how you try and sugar the labor LOSS on votes up you cant LABOR lost..... 53% to 47%  and they lost seats as well....

Former Labor powerbroker Graham Richardson is right - South Australia’s gerrymander is a disgrace.

The Liberals’ failure to win a majority of seats on Saturday can only lead to contempt for the state’s “democracy”:

It is difficult to resist the whinges of the losers when the two-party-preferred vote is 53 per cent...

In 2010, the Liberals achieved 18 seats on a two-party-preferred vote of 52 per cent to 48 per cent. On that occasion, three independents were elected, but even if you add those to the Liberals it still comes to only 21 seats out of 47.

The glib explanation that the Liberals have too many safe seats with big useless majorities just doesn’t cut it. Something is seriously wrong with the South Australian electoral boundaries.

To win on Saturday, the Liberals needed in excess of 54 per cent. I can wear 51 per cent or even 52 per cent. But if you don’t win on 53 per cent or more the word gerrymander springs to mind.

Thanks for posting .

if you knew adelaide you'd also know they tend to live in the same seats. 70% of the vote in a blue ribbon seat or 6 adds up to a lot of votes all in those seats.  they might win if they integrated more, and moved out of highgate etc.

Gee, is this a really old post or something? As the people of South Australia have just clearly shown they have no interest in wiping Labor off the map and the latest political polls have labor in front. So I can't help but wonder where you're getting you your information from?

Here's a link to the latest Roy Morgan poll, showing the ALP would actually win a federal election if it was called tomorrow: http://www.roymorgan.com/morganpoll

Here's one on the South Australian election: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-17/south-australia-election-independents-having-more-talks-about-...
