I suspect that with technology replacing many unskilled jobs, there is intense competition amongst  poorly educated workers for the few low skill jobs that remain. This is leading to employers using, abusing and discarding the workers at will or whim. There is some truly horrendous practices going on in work places that breach any resemblance of employer responsability and the government agencies responsible seem to turn a blind eye.

The Workers Compensation rules are pretty draconian too....not useful for encouraging workers to stay in employment past the retiring age which is what the Government wants.

Limited medical expenses are paid for 12 months after retiring age and no weekly pay amounts.....but we still have to pay the full amount of worker's comp policy.
