Did Labor have a mandate to get rid of Workchoices after they won the election from John Howard?
If so why?

I want to be able to negotiate my wage but as I am not part of the union I have no say..... I don't even get a vote...
Lots of people where I work are not in the union but they also don't get a choice.
In fact the unions are dragging this out and making it harder for lots of people.... with the threat of privatisation I think we work with the Government to secure out futures and longevity of our jobs.

I never had any issues with Workchoice either as an employer or an employee.

good luck on your own then, i'd be sticking with a union seeing as they got you everything in terms of awards and conditions you have today. its a bit like using someone to further yourself, and dumping them when they've done all of the work for you. the anti-union rhetoric is for management , employees cant be anywhere near as effective in negotiation. i think its just an ideological position based on political allegiance on your part. it reminds me of the hospitalised saying 'doctors are no longer necessary' and attempting to operate on themselves frankly. ludicrous and shortsighted lnp all the way no matter what it costs personally.

Small businesses have many challenges to stay afloat, not just employee wages & entitlements.

On one occasion when I was employed I was approached by the union rep an told that I had to join the union, when I refused, I and the employer were threatened with strike action if I did not join. I still refused and came to an agreement with the employer that I be made a member of the staff. The union reg was pretty peeved at that because he had been after a staff position for around 20 years but being a union rep he was never able to achieve that and there I was a staff member after a few weeks. 🙂
By the way LL that was not luck 🙂
not luck, more like brown-nosing . i bet you were popular, do you still have the job ?

People will always have a difference of opinion with this subject.... it will totally depend on if you had a positive experience or not...
but back to the OP... did Labor have a mandate to make those changes on behalf of the people because they won that election?

Because I want to know what people think.
