a friend......
diagnosed recently with bipolar....
what is the difference between BP and manic depression please???
Very little greencat. My OH has had bipolar for over 40 years, he tends to get the mania part of it, and has just in the past few weeks come out of hospital after a 4 week stint. He has not had an admission for about 10 years so we were hoping that it would be ok now. You will get to know the special signs when an attack is about to happen, the big problem is getting any GP to take notice. Just be there for your friend and don't hesitate to talk with them about it if this is what they want. It is just an illness like any other and needs to be discussed like any other illness. I hope your friend is getting the help they need.

Annie, there is nothing that I can say that will make this any easier for you. I cannot even begin to understand what you, Channy's Mum and others in your situation are going through. You are all truly amazing Mothers.

Thanks jean,
my friend is very close to me, and has lately been experiencing a real downward spiral....
makes doctors appts often, then either doesn't turn up or calls to cancel. Knows she needs to go and have normal 'female' checkups, but again, puts them off and turns a blind eye.
She is in a bit of a mess with things, can't seem to make any rational decisions, and jumps from one 'solution' to the next in matter of days,
it is hard to know what to do for the best.

Greencat. There is nothing that you can do personally, apart from keepng a watching brief and just being there. If you are in NSW and you think that things are getting out of hand there is a government medical body called health direct 1800 022 222 which you can call 24/7 and after speaking with a nurse they will put you through to a doctor if they feel necessary. This doctor has the power to order an ambulance to the home if he thinks necessary and order the patient to hospital. I had to use this method last time. They are extremely sympathetic but very efficient.

Thinking of you Hawk and Annie
Hawk, as Channy said, you have done all the firsts & yes they are extremely hard to do, the second year wont be as hard as the first, just take one day at a time.

I`ll bump this too...we need to stop and think what is really important in life..not money, not what you have, not status the list keeps going......our family is the most important thing & what we live for,but sadly life can dish out s h i t..efly peacefully with the angels
