What to do if you suspect someone of impersonating a police officer

Could you recognise a offical Police badge if you saw one ??

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS OVER AN OFFICER’S VALIDITY:

1. Pull over in a well lit, populated public place

2. Stay in the car with doors locked

3. Call triple-0 and ask for verification of the officer’s identity

Unfortunately, if they are genuine police, they won't let you do any of those

three things.  You would be arrested for obstructing justice.

Are you perhaps thinking of America, where such things happen?

000 is for emergencies, there is another number ..................... is that considered an emergency?

Good advice .....   same thing if someone comes to the door and shows a badge, it could easily be faked.  Shut the door and check with the local police station, probably wiser than 000.

Ooops just saw the other post where the police won't let you obstruct them ....  I suppose if they pulled you over in a car

you would see their police car?.

You are allowed to wind the window down 5cm with door locked and ask to see id.

This does happen here, that happen yesterday in NSW.

Ensure you see a blue flashing light.  I believe it is illegal for any vehicle other than genuine police/fire to have one.

I'd make sure the handbrake is on.  The motor turned off.  Then dial.  

Otherwise, you'll get booked for using a hand-held whilst in control of a motor vehicle if the officer is for real.  (Not sure of exact wording of the offence).
