Would you vote for someone who gave a character reference for a Paedophile?

Well Tony Abbott did, he defended a priest that did just that.

The funny thing is that Abbott keeps saying Rudd has poor judgement.

What do others think?

Az he knew.

Thanks.:)

Mr Nestor said he wasn't "great friends" with Mr Abbott at the time of the case.

"He knew me well enough to make that statement, but that doesn't imply that he was my closest friend or anything like that.

"His entire character reference related to 1984. He didn't say anything about my character at the time (of the case).

"He said 'this was the way he was at the seminary'.

"It was entirely what he knew of me then, and his insistence once he found out about (the case) ... says something about his character."

AAhh so this thread is simply about revenge is it? OK got that..  excellent motive.... LOL

is that what I am ment to do.. a LOL at the end of my 1 line? 🙂

so now a 2nd line from me

What about Kevin and the  Heiner Affair? you know the one about the rape of a young Aboriginal girl, and it was covered up and Kevin shredded the documents...  You remember that dont you?  23 years down the track and the Aboriginal girl is still trying to get justice for her covered up rape by the Qld Govt assisted by Kevin Rudd

Simply terrible isnt it and makes you wonder why you would vote for a person that would cover this up and shredd the evidence

When Queensland Child Protection Commission of Inquiry head Tim Carmody SC handed down his finding into the origins of the notorious matter on July 1, he stated in his 144-page report that all members of the March 5, 1990, Goss cabinet were open to a criminal charge under section 129 of the Criminal Code for destroying evidence known to be required for a "realistically possible" future judicial proceeding.

Kevin Rudd was cabinet secretary at the time

If I believed someone was honest and being wrongly convicted then yes I would give a reference. Unless there was proof the person was unworthy of one

I suspect that if you had ambitions as great as Tony Abbott, then you would be very cautious about everything/everyone that you endores because you know it will back at you.

I thik it another example of poor judgement on his part.

Re: Would you vote for someone who gave a character reference for a Paedophile?

Piers failed to mention that this was the first findings based on reports and documents. When the investigation finally too place Carmody blasted the allegations as groundless.

Because what he actually wrote in that report was that "each Cabinet Minister was at risk of a conviction of an offence against Section 129 of the Criminal Code, strictly as a matter of law. (those Cabinet Ministers did not include Rudd by the way or other departmental staff not directly involved)"

and then goes on to say:

"However, the same body of evidence (ie the Section 129) is also capable of supporting competing inferences that are probably equally consistent with innocence,"
