Wow, they loose your child and offer a $7 discount to make up for it

WTF? Honestly, they would of been better off just giving the apology. Not billing her for the afternoon should of just been a given

I suspect they will lose more than $7 for their failure of care.

Why $7?  Was that what it would have cost for the hour that he wasn't there :^O

Was $7 for the afternoon or just that hour? Childcare is a lot cheaper than I thought it must be.

Amazing that the child travelled as far as he did without ending up a road toll statistic! I wonder where he thought he was going?

the $7 was the whole afternoon cost.

I fell over at what happened then choked on my coffee at the cost of the care.

Well, we can't let the facts get in the way of a good story, can we??

She wasn't "offered a $7 discount", she was contacted by the regional manager who apologised to her and told she would not be billed for the afternoon.  Yes, to some a given, but as the child obviously wasn't looked after, I think it needed to be made clear she wouldn't be charged.

I'm not defending the actions of the carers who lost the child, that is simply appaling, but often, so is the media beat up about it.

Just my two cents

Yes Precious and the consequences will be massive, for the child care involved and the staff members.

while the child care staff should certainly be more vigilant, some children are determined to wander.  my young cousin would constantly wander out of his classroom while in grades one and two while his teacher wasn't watching because he got bored.  they used to find him all over the school.  he has grown out of it now thank goodness.  while not good these things do happen on occasion.  if it were possible to keep an eye on every child every minute it would be great but it is not always possible, which is why accidents happen.

Such is life.
