We have to approach recognition of Aliens slowly; a gradual assimilation and acceptance of the concept in our culture and in our consciousness, thru movies like Star Trek etc for example.

To prepare the ground, as it were.

We have almost approached the point where a revelation of contact with Aliens by a credible govt-affiliated source will not rouse a ripple of paranoia in the public consciousness, as seems to be the case with the OP's linked-to story.

I have UFOs at my home each night in the rainforest. Flying insects and critters to fast to identify.

I was occasionally told that the military, especially the Air Force,  "knew" but hushed up  contact with aliens. My response was/is: a secret is secure only if one person knows it, oh, and I was a RAF pilot with operational experience in the US.
