https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-12-14/google-gmail-youtube-crash-in-massive-outage/12983376
i was using youtube when it crashed
are we setting ourselves up for trouble relying on these companies?
is it a warning to the furure to not give too much power to big companies?

What other companies would you suggest we rely on David?
Any company using the internet can crash at any time....look at Optus andTelstra....and then there are the banks that have had outages as well as retail giants such as Coles and Woolworths.

According to outage monitoring website DownDetector, more than 12,000 YouTube users were affected in various parts of the world, including the United States, Britain and India.
12,000 users worldwide is hardly a catastrophe.
If mine went down, it couldn't have been for long.
I didn't notice.

i dont suggest we rely on any company soley in the future
in the story 1 man proclaimed he was unable to heat his home while because google was down?
what the?
you require a company like google to operate the heating in your home?
i'm pretty sure when coles or wollies have an outage you can still find shops to buy food
and you should allways have some cash on hand 'just in case'

So who would rely on You Tube, Gmail or Google for everything anyway?
I cannot think of any large company that covers every aspect of a person's life.

Somebody should teach him about powerpoints and how to use them.

In recent months when Coles and Woolies have been closed completely because of technical problems there was nowhere else that I could buy food....the next nearest shopping precinct is about 5ks away and without a car it was not possible to get there.

You mean cash for all those stores which no longer accept cash in case it is contaminated with coronavirus? That includes Coles and Woolworths in my area.
There are no little corner stores nearby now so no chance to avoid the big supermarkets.

Didn't you just prove his point?
