If you still want to offer accommodation, the number just given on the ABC is 62338829. They are still processing the few hundred people who are still at City Hall and will call you back if they need you.

YOU CAN HELP NOW
Just spoke to Peter at The Don in North Hobart - they are now in line with the Hobart City Council to look after people in need:
THEY HAVE REQUESTED WE STOP RINGING, AND START BRINGING!!
They need EVERYTHING except for babies cots and food:
So think:
toilet paper
any toiletries like deodorant and soap
towels
blankets
toys for kids and colouring in books and pencils - they got 50 colouring in books from the Council last night but no pencils!
any clothes - especially underwear
pillows
sheets
LOTS OF UNDERWEAR
anything you can think people might need, BRING IT
The hotel is still open for a beverage too! $1 out of every drink goes to fire relief fund.

Keen to make a $$ donation? GREAT.
Do NOT do it over a random Facebook page!
Do it through the Salvation Army, The Red Cross, the RACT or the Bendigo Bank.
Have your critical thinking hats on, everyone!

Donations can be made to the RSPCA too.

There were facebook fundraisers started on the first day by groups of locals. These are also genuine people with honest intentions who stepped up before any official fundraising started.
To accuse them of being not genuine is a disgrace.

well just got back from Sorrel where they are accepting donations at the Sorrel School...
I took clothes, blankets, pillows, dog food cans, dog harnesses so they can be kept under control if necessary... um, dog toys and tennis balls because animals feel much more relaxed if normal things happen for them.
I also callled in Coles and picked up women's pants and pads because that is something a lot of people won't think of... 2 big bags of dog dry and 2 big bags of cat dry..
Y'know what? It feels so good to be able to do something for them instead of just feeling awful about what has happened.
I enjoyed the hour's drive up and then back again and met some lovely people 🙂
Just sharing that's all 🙂
