best things in life are free

Always happy to be single at this time of year. Can't stand being bullied by the capitalist machine into proving my love. So sick of these days where one is subjected to constant pressure to spend money on something that should be done every day without the involvement of big or small business

Dogs seem to know what's needed Joanie, in the way of giving comfort.

They're givers and don't ask for too much in return, just a pat.

Well said ten.

Joanie, once a dog (or cat) takes a liking (or dislike) to you, it is very hard to change that.

Often all it wants is a pat or acknowledgement as you walk past.

My dog is like that with one of my GF's sons, he always acknowledges her, gives her a pat and she in turn

goes and visits him at his desk (playing compters).

The other two sons are always telling her to "Move" or "get out of the way" and she has no time for them.

So just acknowledge her, with words and she may well calm down. Learn to read her and what she wants.

A dog is a good friend to have !

I translated that differently Vic. I think the dog likes Joanie a lot and Joanie likes the dog too.

They can't be together, so she tries not to encourage the dog too much.

I bet shes missing me since I've been up here.

Not sure if dogs are really that good at knowing what's needed. I don't actually need little dirty paw prints on my clothes but every dog I meet damn well thinks I do

Agree. The owners need training to train the dog not to jump up.

I used to be scared of dogs and someone a long time ago said to me to use the flat hand out in front to stop dogs getting too close and or jumping up.

Seems to work, although I now have my own dog.

Agree with the "stop" hand signal.  And a soothing "shhh" for when they bark.  Teaches them who's boss.  Same thing works for young childrenSmiley Embarassed

Marriage managed to cure this incurable romantic. But I did buy the cat a can of tuna fish for Valentine's Day!

Cloe is a wonderfull dog, just the kind of dog I'd like to have if I was a dog person and had a place, and could care for a dog. She made me chuckle when I didn't want to laugh. As I type this, I can almost still hear her constant anoying wimpering. I'd say,

"stop your wimpering Cloe, show some dignity, that's not proper behavior for a lady"

She just kept on wimpering at me.
