car airbag question.

i'm hearing on radio they are talking about the airbag troubles still.

ive never been in an accident with a car fitted with airbags.

my cay has 7 i think, driver steering wheel, passenger dash, passenger side, driver side, in the back too i think.

my question is, if you have a small prang, not a roll the car and total it.

just hit something hard enuff to make the airbag deploy.

do they all deploy?

No, there are sensor at various places around the vehicle.

So if you run into the back of someone at medium speed only the dash n steering wheel will deploy.

If at great speed then the curtain airbags at the front can also deploy.

But if you have a small accident at the front they may not deploy at all.

i was thinking if they all go off in a small prang the cost to replace all the bags would be high.

Very high.

I think just a steering wheel or dash airbag with control unit are around 1200 each.

Perhaps dearer on some of the luxury models.

I had a little upstart of a P plater toot at me on a crossing recently when I was actually walking faster than everyone else but had a walking stick in my hand.   It was one of the oldfashioned crook types....I was sooooo tempted to turn round and hook him round the neck.

But there is hope for teenagers yet.....one of the teens who was crossing in the group turned round and gave the driver a very expressive finger.

there you go, replacing 2 airbags would prolly cost more than my cars value now.

no my cars not a wreck but second hand commodores over 10 years old are almost scrap value!
