Re: halal ANZAC biscuits

Islam is a religion, not a race. If I received a $1 for everyone that uses that retort I would be wealthy.

Religious intolerance - does that cover it?

Re: halal ANZAC biscuits

Who brought race into it?

I am not talking about feedback, I suspect the profit margin is feedback.

Re: halal ANZAC biscuits

Racism today can involve a belief that a particular culture is incompatible with a mainstream way of life or national identity. The relationship with race is this: what counts as a culture frequently coincides with race.

In the case of anti-Muslim sentiment, what we frequently see is an expression of racialised cultural hostility. Often we are talking about negative stereotypes that are directed particularly at people who come from the Middle East. The stereotype may be one about the incompatibility of Muslim identity and practices with an Australian way of life.

Re: halal ANZAC biscuits

It comes from the 9NEWS article in the op, az.  My emphasis in bold.

Byron Bay Cookies is seeking legal advice after being inundated with borderline racist remarks for making halal-certified Anzac biscuits.

Customers have left angry and borderline racist posts on the Aussie biscuit manufacturer's Facebook page.

Byron Bay cookies sell their products in over 30 countries in the world. I didn't realise they were that big, good on them.
