a single spin electric motor can be wired to go forward or backwards (from memory) to operated the pully/chain on a garage door to go up & down

rebooting it isnt the same as rebooting a PC

though using the reboot theory was a jag (a fuke)

when there mightnt have been any electrical current entering the motor at all, the on/off or up/down switch could be faulty. flicking with the switch might have got it to work temporarily, there could be a loose connection in the switch

okay,i see,it's like my dryer switch then. 4 years now,i pull the plug,plug it back in and SMACK it,still works!
