......
something comes of it- this has gone on for far too long in too many countries.
*waiting patiently for Pell to come unstuck*
What I never hear is Catholics themselves being up in arms about all the abuse. it doesnt happen. the flock are mostly silent.

Meeps- who is making the noise? people affected? where are all the Catholics that haven't been abused speaking out about this? nowhere

My BIL was abused by a priest when he was 12. There was a group of altar boys that this happened to. The priest is now in jail. My BIL still attends church on a Sunday, every Sunday and his children baptised as Catholics. I asked if he was bitter towards the church and he said not the church itself but the individual that violated him.

Wareubin, so the Catholic Church does not deserve this critism (would use another word but want this to stay on here ;), )
so we can't criticise the Catholic Church JUST because there are rock spiders everywhere?
Less than 4% of all priests from 1950-2013have been accused of abuse.
What percentage of men in the general population have been accused of abuse? Probably about the same number.
I never said you couldn't criticise, don't put words in my mouth.

Did you ask him if Howe he felt about his church covering up the abuse? Or is he too far gone to even accept that?
*passes wareubin a broom.....better sweep hard angf fast 😉

a quick google will reveal that this is not just the Catholic Church which is guilty of these despicable crimes... As far as the varying religions go the Catholic Church is an amateur with the Protestants leading the way, closely followed by the Anglicans.
In saying that, the various religions in general fall far behind non religious organizations in the amount of abuse that does occur, that which is being brought to the table, and that which is being "covered up".
Some members of the Catholic Church handled an incredibly dynamic and controversial crime in a way that I doubt anyone approves, the people who made those decisions, are human, but I do believe that these past gross errors of judgement (regardless of the reasoning) are now being corrected.

Only because the world is demanding it crikey!

I left in disgust years ago when rather than accept that divorce is better than living in hate they expected you get an annulment.
I think the whole Catholic teaching is abnormal and maybe anyone who still practices is brainwashed.

Perhaps the media should be blamed for that. While you will not see , as you suggested, everyone leaving in droves for obvious reasons, there are many Catholic organistations who are not satisfied with the Chruch's handling of reported cases of child sex abuse who organise 'call to action' type fundraisers. When you say speaking out, what do you mean? Protests?

Really? no one expects you to get an annulment unless you wish to remarry in the Catholic Church.
