Why do you think Peter Dutton apologized?
Because on reflection he realized the comment was wrong and inappropiate (obviously he would have sent texts to
all of the original recipients as well as the reporter to beg their forgiveness)
or because he merely sent the text to the wrong person but stands by his comments.
No need to wait for my opinion ...
He apologized because his schoolboy ways/thoughts were made public which in turn highlights his core insincerity

When trying to rebuild trust—it helps to give the right type of apology at the right time.
Unfortunately, most people do not know how to apologize or say "I am sorry."
Typically, people make the mistake of apologizing too quickly.
People say "I am sorry" at the moment they are caught in a lie or caught doing something wrong.
Apologizing too quickly—especially when in trouble often comes across as being insincere.
It looks like you are saying "I’m sorry" as a means of appeasing a partner.
It does not come across a thoughtful or meaningful gesture.
Rather it looks like you are simply trying to protect yourself from harm.

Lets destroy him.

Ok.... you go first... or should we just let him implode with his own comments?

I'll leave it up to you, you seem to be enjoying it too much.

I think he is making a fine job of it himself... well... I guess he also "gets by with a little help from his friends"
... (Ha , ha ,ha)
Peter Dutton: It’s like Cape York time.
Tony Abbott: What’s that, mate?
Peter Dutton: Cape York time.
Tony Abbott: We had a bit of that up in Port Moresby.
Peter Dutton: Oh yeah.
Tony Abbott: Yeah yeah…. Anyway, it was a good meeting. A good meeting.
Scott Morrison: When was… Was it in Port Moresby?
Peter Dutton: Time doesn’t mean anything when you’re about to be … you know … have water lapping at your
door.
Tony Abbott: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Scott Morrison: There’s a boom up there.

Being sorry that you got caught isn't the same as being sorry for the action.

I reckon they must use a ticket system like in the supermarket to keep order about who's turn it is to make the next gaff.

What's that saying? small things amuse small minds.

I think that he was mainly sorry that he sent the text to the wrong person
but really, what a bizarre mess these people get themselves into
