question for the gardeners

I thought hippeastrums flowered late spring into summer. So why have a few of mine started to flower now. I planted them about 3-4 months ago.

In my experience plants respond to the weather, not the calender. All sorts of odd flowerings happen sometimes.Woman Happy

Re: question for the gardeners

not sure what state you're in but according to Don Burke's fact sheet they're supposed to flower from late Spring through to Summer

I'm sure I've seen the red one flowering over winter before

so yes, your's are floweing at an odd time, it must be due to the weather

Re: question for the gardeners

Sometimes, flowering plants *spot flower* at odd times during the yr, dont know why, but wouldnt worry about it, as they will be in full flower when they are suppose to as well.

I have lots of plants that spot flower at odd times.

That's right joz, there are records being broken all the time, it is going to have impact on bird migration too.

Re: question for the gardeners

Hi Harley. Are you the same Harley from the RT? Haven't seen you in ages.

I have a gardening question. I have two gladioli and they're dead stalks. Do I dig them up, or leave them? If I leave them, can I chop the ugly dead leaves off? If I dig them up, how do store the bulbs? And how do you break the bulbs into bits?
