quick ebay question.

An item finished. No one bidded so I sent the buyer a message that I want it. The buyer wants my paypal ID to send me an invoice. My question is, do I have any protection if I do not get the item and can I dispute it on paypal like ebay? Is it safe without going thru ebay?

That's not true either Joz.  As sheep said, The whole reason you are aware that his item is for sale is because of his "advertisement" on eBay

It would be an off ebay transaction and the seller could suffer consequences to their account such as account suspension or restrictions.

i disagree Joono. If the seller simply sends the PP invoice without any ebay description.. the seller wont get penalized whatsoever.

Well they might be Joz if the buyer blabs it all over the boards :^O

Of course no one here knows who the seller could be so that won't happen here.

so if you include the item number in the PP invoice, you wont get charged a ebay FVF, but you do run the risk of the buyer dobbing you in for fee avoidance.

Why would I bother dobbing someone that's trying to help me out???

exactly, but be best for the seller to play it safe, coz, no doubt there are some shonky buyers out there lookin' to damage seller accounts.

I am always fully aware that eBay can read all communication between buyers and sellers, bob you messaged the seller through eBay, if the seller agrees to your suggestion they are violating policy. I don't see any advantage in it for you?

yea ebay are able to read all communications thru ebay, but, do you think all messages are monitored. be similar scenario to the boards, they'll only read them if theyre brought to their attention.

the transaction is done outside of ebay anyway therefore has no longer got anything to do with ebay.

personally, i would ask the seller to relist the item as "BIN" but make sure you'll be online when they do so, so nobody else will nick it and, you got that added back up of the feedback system.
